An ingredient has
a job to do.
Cream adds richness. Eggs can bind. Flour gives structure. A useful swap starts with the role—not just a different name.
Suggestions with a reason to review
MellowMise uses AI-assisted cooking-role guidance and declared dietary needs to suggest ingredient changes. Suggestions may consider binding, fat, acid, or leavening roles. The app does not independently test flavor, texture, baking behavior, or the finished dish.
In a creamy pasta sauce, oat cooking cream might be an option to consider instead of dairy cream. The product label, suitability for the household, amount, and sauce behavior still require review.
Pantry remembers names—not stock levels
Add the ingredient names you keep in your pantry. Matching can help prioritize substitutions using those saved names. It does not automatically know how much is left, what has expired, what you used yesterday, or what is on the packaging.
- Check that the matched item is actually available.
- Compare its amount with the adapted recipe.
- Read the specific product’s ingredients and allergen label.
- Check freshness and whether it suits the cooking role.
Separately useful. Better considered together.
Swaps suggest alternatives. Pantry supplies the names you have saved. Sentinel checks known mapped terms and supported dietary rules. All three inform the same recipe review; a pantry match does not override an allergen warning.
